In a scenario characterized by the recovery of its market sectors of reference, Comer Industries achieved consolidated revenues of 276,534 thousand euros, rising by 14.6% compared to the previous year. Net profit stood at 10,690 thousand euros, an important growth compared to the 2009 fiscal year. The consolidated financial position strengthened, exhibiting a significantnet indebtedness reduction, an increment in equity and a ratio of net financial position to equity (gearing) of 0.35. The number ofemployees also grew from 1,145 to 1,217 (+6.3%).

The company performed very well in the industrial area, particularly in the compact construction and road machinery segments. In the renewable energies sector, Comer Industries further increased its revenues with cutting edge products and technical solutions for new generation wind turbines. The applications for agriculture market also showed signs of recovery, driven by a widespread growth in demand in the second half of 2010.

Comer Production System (CPS)

Comer Industries in 2009 has taken the competitiveness challenge: it has launched a structural improvement program of its industrial activities to achieve world class performance in customer satisfaction (Quality, Cost and Service), safety of workers and respect for the environment.

The Comer Production System (CPS) project was born, an integrated system of methodologies and standards that encourage people to support daily continuous improvement at all corporate levels and in all areas.

An intensive program of Kaizen workshops is transforming production departments, logistics systems and new product development processes, through direct involvement and training of all people working in the company.

A new corporate culture is spreading: a new energy that, from the bottom, stimulates the intelligence and creativity of all employees in Comer Industries to banish waste (Muda) and adopt automotive industry best practices (JIT-Just in Time, 6 Sigma, TPM - Total Productive Maintenance, APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning).

Code of Practice and Conduct

According to the Italian Law Decree 231/2001, regulating the responsibility of bodies corporate, Comer Industries has endowed itself with a Code of Practice and Conduct. This document clearly defines the undertakings and the responsibilities of Comer Industries as regards the conduction of business and corporate activities to ensure the effective management of transactions and human relations.

The Code of Practice and Conduct ensures correctness, transparency and impartiality of operations, transactions and in all cases of potential conflict of interests. It safeguards the clarity of information, diligence in carrying out duties and executing contracts, and the integrity of individuals.

With this document, Comer Industries undertakes to promote a culture of safety, fostering the awareness of risks and promoting responsible behavior on the part of all its collaborators. The Comer Industries Code of Practice and Conduct was approved by the Board of Directors on 19/12/2008.

Mechatronics Research Center

The Comer Industries cutting-edge systems are conceived and designed in the company’s Mechatronics Research Center (CRM). Opened in 1996 in Reggiolo, the CRM is of strategic importance for Comer Industries. In particular, it focuses on perfect product development cutting prototype execution times and the time-to-market of new machines. Since 2002, it has been registered in the List of public and private Research centers of the Italian Ministry of Universities and Research.

In the never ending search for more efficient and functional systems, Comer Industries responds with innovative mechatronic solutions, which are developed in our Research Center.

Quality, Safety and Environment

Comer Industries’ leadership is based on product and process’ quality excellence. To optimize process management, we have recently created a new Quality, Safety and Environment department to develop an integrated management system in these areas.

Quality refers to business processes too: all of our operating units in Italy have obtained UNI EN ISO 9001 Certification. Quality can be found throughout our whole production process: the quality level of our suppliers, is monitored throughout the purchasing process, through specific procedures.

Comer Industries is committed to implementing to the product development process the automotive standard APQP – Advanced Product Quality Planning, to:

  • promote the interconnection of processes
  • optimize cost/benefit
  • ensure the customer a product that meets its real needs

Comer Industries have always considered workers' safety one of its priorities. A safe environment has a positive and significant effect on the quality of work and productivity of people.

In recent years, thanks to our plant modernization and consistent personnel safety training, Comer Industries have achieve very positive results. To carry out these progresses, Comer Industries has adopted a specific Organizational Model (based on the Italian Legislative Decree of 231/2201).

Comer Industries has recently created a new Quality, Safety and Environment Department to develop an integrated management system in these areas.

The company has answered to the continuously growing need for alternative energies by developing systems and products for wind turbine towers, sun tracking solar panels and biofuel production technologies.

Our Planetary Drives Operating Units located in Cavriago (Reggio Emilia) and Comer Industries Components in Matera have both obtained UNI EN ISO 14001 Environmental Certification: this entails the strict standards observance in solid and liquid waste disposal, air emissions and energy efficiency. Comer Industries is currently in the process of attaining the Environment Certification for our other facilities.

Moreover, Comer Industries is committed to environmental initiatives such as Eco Marathon, an international contest for high schools, universities and private companies to develop reduced fuel consumption and highly efficient vehicles.
